Job summary

TikTok in Seattle is offering a Research Engineer Intern position for the 2027 Summer session in Agentic Systems & AI Infrastructure. This internship focuses on building AI-native engineering infrastructure and advancing frontier methods across large-scale production systems.

The role targets students pursuing an Undergraduate or Master’s in CS with experience in AI agents, machine learning, reinforcement learning, and distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an Undergraduate/ Master's in Computer Science or a related field.
• Demonstrated research or engineering experience in AI agents or closely related areas such as large language model reasoning, reinforcement learning, program synthesis, or AI for code.
• Strong programming and systems-building ability in at least one language such as Python, C++, Go, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Conduct frontier research on reliable long-horizon agents for complex, multi-step software engineering and operations tasks.
• Advance agent capabilities in hierarchical planning, memory/context management, tool use, environment interaction, and multi-agent coordination.
• Co-design agents and models through post-training, reinforcement learning, and test-time scaling to improve real-world tasks.
• Build scalable agent infrastructure for orchestration, evaluation, observability, and reliable execution across large codebases and distributed production environments.
• Translate research into production systems and measure impact through task success and software quality.
