Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University hosts PREP opportunities in collaboration with NIST. The PREP Research Associate will support the Materials and Structural Systems Division with hands-on lab work, data collection, and project support across 3D printing, structural testing, and material properties.

Under supervision from senior staff, you will help implement experimental procedures, analyze data, and assist in safety and procurement activities, while pursuing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with Python, LabVIEW, AutoCAD, Inventor, or MTS TestSuite for lab support.
• Ability to operate power tools and analytical instruments with training provided.
• Ability to work without close supervision in a team environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel/PowerPoint/Word) for data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Support senior staff to keep lab equipment operating and spaces safe.
• Maintain and calibrate lab equipment as needed.
• Assist in discarding obsolete lab equipment under supervision.
• Coordinate schedules and prepare presentations for groups within the Division and external stakeholders.
• Collect data and refine project designs; perform data analysis to meet standards.
