Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks a PREP Research Associate to advance the durability study of additively constructed structures in collaboration with NIST. The role focuses on tests, methods development, and guidance for additive construction under the ACE Consortium.

You will work with robotic cementitious printing, multi-scale testing, and data-driven analysis, contributing to code and standard development efforts in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Civil, or Materials Engineering or a related science field.
• Hands-on lab experience with mechanical characterization, nanoindentation, TGA, DSC, FTIR, AFM, and optical microscopy.
• Experience with data analysis using Excel and Origin.
• Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis is a plus.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, and Grasshopper.
• Experience with Ansys, Abaqus, or other FEM software.
• Ability to work with real-time event data at scale and develop data-analysis prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Review literature and test results from previous investigations.
• Perform print operations on 7-axis multi-component mortar robot printer.
• Assist in PLC and other system integration of pumps, fixtures, and sensors used in printing.
• Characterize mechanical performance of cast and printed elements.
• Prepare samples for microscopy investigations.
• Present results in group meetings; write protocols and technical reports.
• Archive results, protocols, software, and documentation.
