Job summary

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a PREP Research Associate to join the NIST PREP collaboration. The role focuses on evaluating additively constructed structures through advanced mechanical testing, microscopy, and multi-scale analysis in the Infrastructure Materials Group of NIST's Engineering Laboratory.

The position demands a Master’s or higher in a relevant field, hands-on lab skills, CAD/CAE fluency, and experience with data analysis tools. U.S. residency is preferred.

Qualifications

  • US citizens preferred; currently living in the United States.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Civil, or Materials Engineering or related science with multi-scale testing.
  • Hands-on lab experience with mechanical characterization and microscopy.
  • Proficient in data analysis with Excel/Origin; Python or R preferred.
  • Experience with CAD/CAE tools and FEM software is a plus.
  • Ability to work with real-time data at scale and develop prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Review literature and test results from previous investigations.
  • Perform print operations on 7-axis multi component mortar robot printer.
  • Assist in PLC and other system integration of pumps, fixtures, and sensors.
  • Characterize mechanical performance of cast and printed elements.
  • Prepare samples for microscopy investigations.
  • Present results, write protocols and technical reports.
  • Archive results, protocols, software, and documentation.
