Virginia Tech has a unique and exciting opportunity for aCoordinator in the Research Conflict of Interest (COI) Program. TheResearch COI Program assumes a critical role in the researchenterprise at Virginia Tech by identifying and managing financialconflicts of interest to promote objectivity. The programdetermines whether disclosed financial interests could directly andsignificantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of sponsoredresearch. If so, the program must ensure that a plan to manage thefinancial conflict of interest is developed and implemented,consistent with the timeline established by the university.

This position will be in the Division of Scholarly Integrity andResearch Compliance, a critical unit within the Office of Researchand Innovation that assists researchers with the fulfillment oftheir research compliance responsibilities. The Research COICoordinator will join a dedicated team of professionals working toensure ethical excellence in disclosure and compliance with relatedregulations.

The Research COI Coordinator will complete financial conflict ofinterest reviews and facilitate other activities in accordance withuniversity policy 13010, Conflict of Interest. The incumbent willprovide guidance and referrals to the university community forquestions about the disclosure process and its application to theirsituations. As a liaison between faculty and the program, theResearch COI Coordinator will advise faculty on disclosure andregulatory compliance and develop ways to communicate thisinformation effectively.

This position requires the ability to follow instructions,precisely document actions, and work independently; a strong focuson customer service, problem solving, and creativity in developingtools and solutions; working in an organized manner under tightdeadlines; and effective interpersonal, teamwork, and communicationskills. The incumbent will report to the Director of the ResearchCOI Program.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting research or supporting research activitiesin an academic or medical environment
  • Experience supporting COI or other compliance programs
  • Experience with continuous quality improvement to optimizeworkflows

Additional Information

The position is hybrid, with a weekly on-campus presence, and willrequire the completion of a telework agreement in accordance withPolicy 4325, Alternative Work Site and Telework Policy. The hybridwork schedule will be confirmed following an onsite trainingperiod.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminalconviction check.
