Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to support research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The role involves coordinating with sponsors, IRB submissions, data collection from medical records and questionnaires, and monitoring adherence to study protocols.

The candidate will develop and maintain study logs, assist with informed consent, coordinate site visits, and communicate with participants.

  • Track and report adverse events and protocol deviations.
  • Coordinate site monitoring or auditing visits by sponsor or federal agencies.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain IRB, OSP, and other regulatory documents.

Job Description

Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, assistswith administrative activities associated with the conduct ofresearch studies including industry sponsored, grant funded, orinternally funded studies while maintaining compliance withguidelines set by governing agencies and institutional policy. Thisposition will be assigned to support minimal risk ornon-interventional studies, unless assigned to serve in a supportfunction for greater than minimal risk studies that also include aClinical Research Coordinator or Clinical Research Nurse.

The primary duties of the role will include, but may not be limitedto, the following:

  • Assist in overseeing compliance to research protocols. Assists withcompletion and submission of study related documentation.
  • Assist in monitoring enrollment goals. Coordinates tasks related toresearch subjects such as assisting with development of informedconsents and screening materials, scheduling visits, obtaininginformed consent, and acting as a liaison between researchparticipants and the research study team.
  • Collects data from patient charts, medical records, interviews,questionnaires, diagnostic tests and other sources. Collectresearch specimens as directed in the protocol.
  • Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements ofregulatory agencies. Tracks and reports adverse events and protocoldeviations.
  • Under supervision of Principal Investigator, coordinates all siterelated monitoring or auditing visits from sponsor and/or federalagency during the course of the study and at closure.
  • Prepares, submits and maintains IRB, OSP, and/or any other fundingor regulatory documents and research correspondence.
  • Develops and maintains patient databases and study maintenance logsincluding but not limited to training logs, delegation ofresponsibility logs, screening logs, and enrollment logs.

Candidate will be expected to complete IATA certification within 60days of hire.

Position requires local travel between Roanoke and New River Valleylocations. Position requires pre-employment conviction, driving,and drug-panel screening.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or training in biology, health sciences, biochemistry,exercise physiology, or another related field.
  • Experience with basic laboratory protocols, especially propercollection, handling, or processing of biospecimens.
  • Knowledge of medical and/or pharmaceutical terminology stronglydesired.
