Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and four years of related experience, or eight years of direct experience in research compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and coordinates research compliance for committees (Export Control, conflict of interest, regulatory and ethical standards).
  • Performs risk assessments to identify compliance vulnerabilities and classifies equipment and software for export control.
  • Maintains institutional records of actions and decisions of compliance committees.
  • Monitors and audits research activities to ensure regulatory and ethical standards are met; develops plans as needed.

Job Summary

The Research Compliance Coordinator supports the researchcompliance operations of FGCU's of the Office of Research andSponsored Programs. This position is responsible for administrationand coordination of FGCU's compliance with Federal and Stateregulations related to research integrity, export controls, andimproper foreign influence. The Research Compliance Coordinatorreports directly to the Assistant Director of Research Compliance& Integrity.

Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Administers and coordinates research compliance for committeesincluding but not limited to Export Control, conflict of interest,regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Performs risk assessments to determine compliancevulnerabilities; evaluates labs for export control purposes,including classification of equipment, technology, andsoftware.
  • Prepares documentation required for research compliance byUniversity regulations and requirements. Maintains officialinstitutional records of the actions and decisions of compliancecommittees.
  • Monitors and audits research efforts to ensure that protocolsmeet regulatory and ethical standards and creates management plansas needed.
  • Maintains an electronic resource base of materials that can beaccessed as needed for inclusion in protocols (as required byfunding agencies).
  • Screens applications to assure completions and distributes forreview.
  • Reviews and makes determinations related to foreign nationalresearch applications according to related policies.
  • Provides training to PIs, faculty, staff, students, andexternal collaborators on protocol related activities andcompliance.
  • Compiles research data to produce reports upon request.Responds to external agencies' requests for information regardingresearch compliance.
  • Reviews VISA applications for export control licensingrequirements.
  • Reviews and approves international travel and shipping.
  • Monitors changes in existing federal and state laws, statutesand compliance regulations and makes recommendations for area ofprogram improvement to address compliance requirements.
  • Monitors university regulations and policies, and updatesdepartment procedures accordingly.
  • Provides administrative support for compliance committees.
  • Assists with updating procedures, forms, and informationalmaterials as needed.
  • Communicates relevant information to department staff,researchers, study personnel, and regulatory committeemembers.
Other Duties:
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in professional activities, trainings, nationalmeetings and seminars related to position responsibilities.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either eight years of directly relatedfull-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degreefrom an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directlyrelated to the job functions.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient withMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in anappropriate area of specialization.
  • Experience in managing research compliance and working withresearch compliance committees in higher education.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and online databases.
  • Experience with Workday or similar financial software.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, andregulations related to the position.
  • Knowledge of Descartes Visual Compliance.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area ofresponsibility.
  • Knowledge of administrative and regulatory operations ofcompliance committees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with legal documents andbudgets.
  • Knowledge of research compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communicationskills.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize andcomplete simultaneous projects when numerous and complex demandsare involved.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency andlearn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, andreports.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team andindependently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff,faculty, students, and the community in a service-orientedenvironment.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned andtimely decisions.
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate meetings.
