Summary

The Research Community Health Educator (RCHE) will be based in or able to travel to the catchment areas of Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Immokalee, and Clewiston, with occasional travel to Tampa.

Position Summary:

The RCHE will develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for community members, partner agencies, professional audiences, and health providers, focusing on cancer clinical trial enrollment and prevention strategies, ensuring cultural and linguistic appropriateness.

This position can be institutional or research-specific, with responsibilities assigned by the PI or manager and conducted under their supervision.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ownership of responsibilities and effective presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in word processing and database management.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, managing multiple tasks and establishing effective relationships.
  • Self-directed with strong time management skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor research protocols.
  • Deliver research interventions.
  • Participate in training to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Execute culturally and linguistically appropriate educational activities.
  • Improve patient screening and enrollment in clinical trials.
  • Educate about clinical trials and address barriers to participation.
  • Develop educational tools with faculty for diverse patient populations.
  • Coordinate community outreach and act as a resource for capacity building.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Lead targeted health education and outreach activities.
  • Support patients interested in clinical trials through assessments and resource connections.
  • Assist with medical record retrieval as needed.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • At least two years of research and community or patient education experience in chronic disease.
  • Experience in public speaking, program planning, and working with diverse groups.
  • Preferred experience in oncology education, bilingual in Spanish, and familiarity with NCI programs.
