Job description

The Research Community Health Educator (RCHE) should be based in or able to travel (at least 2-3 times per week) to the following catchment areas: Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Immokalee, Clewiston. There will be occasional (2-3 times per year) travel to the Tampa area.

Position Summary:

The RCHE will develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for community members, partner agencies, professional community audiences, and other health providers. These programs will focus on Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC) defined target areas and specific community sites in Tampa, FL, and surrounding areas. The initiative emphasizes cancer clinical trial enrollment and prevention strategies to improve community health and promote health behaviors such as cancer screening. All educational activities will be culturally and linguistically appropriate, aligning with national imperatives.

This position can be either a Moffitt institutional role or a research-specific role, depending on needs. The portfolio of work will be assigned by the PI or manager of record and conducted under the supervision of the Principal Investigator(s) and Lead Research Community Health Educator.

  • Is self-directed with excellent time management skills, capable of navigating a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to development, implementation, and monitoring of protocols.
  • Deliver research interventions.
  • Participate in ongoing training to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Implement educational activities aligned with national initiatives for culturally and linguistically appropriate education.
  • Use strategies and education to enhance patient screening and enrollment in Moffitt clinical trials.
  • Educate diverse audiences about clinical trials, addressing barriers and facilitators to participation.
  • Collaborate with clinical and research faculty to develop tools and materials promoting diversity in clinical trial enrollment.
  • Coordinate cancer clinical trial awareness and preventive health education services in the community, acting as a resource and capacity builder.
  • Build relationships and trust with stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Develop and lead targeted health education, outreach, or navigation activities on topics like cancer prevention and research recruitment.
  • Support new patients interested in clinical trials by assessing barriers to enrollment.
  • Assist patients via email and phone, connecting them with Moffitt and community resources.
  • Assist with medical record retrieval as needed.
Credentials and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience, including at least one year in research (epidemiologic, observational, diagnostic, supportive care, or clinical intervention) and one year in community or patient education in chronic disease.
  • Experience in public speaking, public relations, marketing, program planning, development, evaluation, and working with diverse groups required.
  • Preferred: community or patient teaching/education in oncology, bilingual (Spanish), healthcare setting experience, knowledge of NCI programs, and experience in communications and program evaluation.
