Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks a Research Associate to perform professional level medical or scientific research in transcription regulatory mechanisms related to HIV-1 latency, cancer, and related contexts. The role involves planning experiments, data analysis, and collaboration with the D'Orso lab.

Candidates with a Master’s will be highly considered; strong programming and analytical skills are preferred, with the ability to work independently and in teams on complex projects.

Qualifications

• Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s with major coursework in field of assignment.
• Experience: 3 years laboratory experience with Master’s including 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent, or 4 years with Bachelor’s including 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based on latest developments or data.
• Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
• Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies equipment used in experiments.
• Instructs students and staff in techniques, procedures, and equipment.
• Assists PI and team in writing reports and papers for publication.
• May supervise lower-grade staff performing complex tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Works under general direction to perform professional level medical or scientific research assignments related to particular or specialized field of endeavor.

The Dr. D'Orso Lab Investigates Transcription Regulatory Mechanisms In The Context Of HIV-1 Latency, Cell Fate Choice, And Cancer. We Aim At Leveraging Fundamental Basic Knowledge To Devise Novel Therapies For HIV-1, Immune-based Disorders, And Cancer. Our Mission Is To

• Elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms of transcriptional regulation during HIV-1 latency maintenance and reactivation.
• Define fundamental principles of transcriptional regulation with broader implications to physiologic (differentiation, development) and pathological (cancer, chronic inflammation) contexts.

We are seeking a Research Associate that has experience with large-scale data analysis. Preferred skills include:

• relevant research experience in molecular & cellular biology, genetics, and/or genomics
• strong analytical skills & interest in computational approaches to biological research.
• strong organizational skills
• the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team

Candidates with a Master's will be highly considered.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Education Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment or Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment
• Experience 3 years of laboratory experience with Master's degree including 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent or 4 years of laboratory experience with Bachelor's degree including 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.

Job Duties

• Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.
• Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
• Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.
• Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
• Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication.
• May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
