Job description

The Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC) is a consortium of renowned experts who are world leaders in investigating ways to prevent disease and promote health. Their work is focused on identifying the most practical, science-based solutions for addressing some of society's most pervasive and preventable health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions and to raise the standards of scientific investigation that matters for health. SPRC investigators are collaborating on numerous, long-term projects designed to translate research into effective ways to promote well-being at every stage of life.

The Hsing Lab at SPRC is seeking an exceptional, highly-motivated, well-organized, and team-oriented full-time Research Assistant to support research activities related to establishing an Asian American Cohort funded by the National Institute of Health. Under the direction of the PI and program managers, the Research Assistant will provide administrative support for the study. Key duties include contacting participants (call, email, text) to schedule in-person clinic appointments, to remind them of upcoming visits, and to complete study activities; preparing specimen collection kits, questionnaires, and other study documents ahead of participant visits; entering data into the study database; receiving collected samples and transporting to the lab for processing; preparing and sending thank you cards, gift cards and other swag to participants after completion of study activities; designing participant outreach materials such as informational flyers; and perform administrative tasks to support study meetings.

Duties include:

  • Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements.
  • Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires.
  • Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents.
  • Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.
  • Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Review medical records and/or perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed.
  • Administer standard study questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry.
  • Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy.
  • Extract data from source documents for research studies as directed.
  • Collect data and complete case report forms.
  • Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in either a Clinical Research or Life Science research environment.
  • Team player with the flexibility to work in an ever changing environment.
  • Fluent in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Tagalog, or Hindi is a plus
  • Degree in biological sciences or related field preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • General knowledge of medical terminology.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

  • Working toward certification(s) to perform basic patient
  • measurements and tests, such as phlebotomy and EKG.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
  • Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

The expected pay range for this position is $29.44 to $33.26 hourly. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
