Job summary

• Experience using Canva and PowerPoint to design slides, graphics, and visuals.
• Experience preparing presentations, reports, manuscripts, posters, data briefs, or other dissemination products for varied audiences.
• Knowledge of cancer prevention and control, implementation science, health equity, pharmacy-based research, or shared decision-making.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention ( HPDP ) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.

Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Research Assistant will support applied public health research, training, evaluation, and dissemination activities within the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network ( CPCRN ). The position will work closely with investigators, project staff, community and practice partners, and training participants to ensure project activities are well organized, accurately documented, and completed on schedule.

Primary responsibilities include supporting the development, revision, evaluation, and delivery of the Putting Public Health Evidence in Action curriculum; coordinating training communications and logistics; programming evaluation surveys and organizing data; and maintaining training materials and documentation. The Research Assistant will also support qualitative research for a pharmacy-based lung cancer screening shared decision-making project through participant recruitment and scheduling, data-collection logistics, transcript review, coding, data organization, and preliminary synthesis of findings. As the project progresses, the position may assist with coordinating and tracking a pilot of the pharmacy-based intervention.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining project data and tracking tools, contributing to funder reports, conducting targeted literature searches, preparing meeting documentation, and assisting with presentations, manuscripts, posters, data briefs, reports, and other dissemination products.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Management Preferences

• Experience supporting public health research, training, or program evaluation activities
• Experience with qualitative research methods, including interviews, focus groups, transcript review, coding, or qualitative analysis software
• Experience using programs such as Canva and PowerPoint to design slides, graphics, and visuals
