Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician II to join the Insourcing Solutions team in Baltimore, MD. You will perform daily husbandry, assist with breeding programs, and help maintain animal health records in a fast-paced research setting.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of animal care experience (rodents), and ALAT certification within 1 year 3 months, with LAT preferred, and must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience working with research animals (specifically rodents).
• ALAT certification required within 1 year and 3 months.
• LAT certification or equivalent training preferred.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsor visa, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, including water checks, food and water provision, cage changes and documentation of health concerns.
• Monitor environmental parameters and maintain written records.
• Assist with restraint and handling of various animal species and transfer of non-human primates between cages.
• Support rodent breeding program including mating pairs, weaning, recordkeeping, and phenotype observations.
• Ensure cages are identified with strain or lineage, sex and status.
• Maintain breeding records and pedigree data.
• Care for transgenic births, determine sex, and wean when appropriate.
• Provide animal identification (ear notching, ear tagging, toe clipping).
• Assist with specialized care including diet preparation, medicated water, and drug administration.
• Assist research staff with logistics and scheduling of projects and provide lab support.
