Job summary

The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Laboratory Animal Resources seeks an Animal Care and Operations Supervisor to oversee daily animal care activities and staff. The role ensures compliant husbandry, staffing, and equipment operations in DLAR facilities.

You will mentor staff, coordinate with veterinary services and campus departments, and uphold animal welfare, SOPs, and regulatory standards while supporting researchers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; LAT certification required within 12 months for external candidate.
  • Two years lab animal experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to manage staff and budgets.
  • Ability to pass background checks and health clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise personnel including recruitment, work assignments, and training.
  • Manage facility and equipment operations, maintenance schedules, and vendor coordination.
  • Support researchers to ensure study perimeters are met.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with DLAR and University departments.
  • Promote animal welfare and ensure DLAR SOPs and regulations compliance.
  • Follow instructions and document in English; use CAMS/PRISM.
