Job summary

You will coordinate with investigators, provide orientation on Polaris, manage cage card and animal requisitions, and help maintain maintenance logs. This essential position requires a high school diploma or GED, 5–7 years in the lab animal field, and AALAS certification within one year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; 5–7 years in the laboratory animal field.
• Must become AALAS certified within one year of acceptance of the job.
• Must have knowledge of restraint, handling and euthanasia techniques.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English; follow written and verbal instructions.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily animal husbandry activities and review work quality.
• Schedule daily, weekend and holiday activities to ensure quality care.
• Interface with investigators to troubleshoot problems and provide service.
• Provide orientation and training for facility users in Polaris and cage card management.
• Assist in ordering feed, bedding and supplies; maintain logs.
• Oversee receipt and inspection of animal shipments and perform duties when short staffed.
