Department Summary

At the convergence of the fields of social work, urban planning, and policymaking, UCLA Luskin identifies and develops emerging areas of research and teaching, cultivating leaders and change agents who advance solutions to society's most pressing problems. The Million Dollar Hoods project is housed in both the Luskin School of Public Affairs and the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies. The Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA was established as an Organized Research Unit (ORU), with the mission to develop and strengthen African American Studies at UCLA. The Center supports research that (1) expands the knowledge of the history, lifestyles, and sociocultural systems of people of African descent and (2) investigates problems that have bearing on the psychological, social, and economic well-being of persons of African descent. Research sponsored and conducted by the Bunche Center is multidisciplinary in scope and spans the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and several professional schools.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Faculty Director, the Research and Policy Project Analyst independently coordinates and manages research and policy initiatives for Million Dollar Hoods. The position develops and monitors project plans, timelines and deliverables; coordinates internal and external stakeholders; contributes to research and policy analysis; identifies and resolves project-related issues; prepares project reports and summaries; and serves as a primary point of contact for assigned initiatives. The position works collaboratively with faculty, community partners, researchers, and other stakeholders to advance project objectives. The Research and Policy Project Analyst will be responsible for managing the various initiatives of MDH. Project management in these positions involves coordinating meetings between stakeholders, setting and facilitating agendas and discussions when needed, setting timelines, and monitoring progress by team members on various tasks. The ideal candidate will be a primary point of contact which requires learning the past and present activities as well as the future direction of the respective initiatives, and being able to publicly speak on behalf of the projects.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

  • Experience with campaign-driven community organizing.

  • A working knowledge of LA County government structure and the history of movements in Black LA communities.
    (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently and following tasks through to completion.Skill in defining problems and proposing solutions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including developing project plans, establishing timelines and deliverables, coordinating multiple stakeholders, monitoring progress, identifying risks or barriers, and resolving project-related issues. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate programs, policies, or projects and develop sound conclusions and recommendations. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
  • Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. (Required)
