Introduction

IBM's Chief Sustainability Office is seeking a Reporting Analyst to support the advancement of IBM's sustainability commitments and meet growing regulatory, client, and corporate disclosure requirements. This role sits at the intersection of environmental science, data analytics, and corporate strategy supporting the accounting and reporting of IBM's GHG emissions and renewable energy performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with sustainability and technical professionals across the IBM organization to collect and validate data and drive process improvement and automation. The role will provide opportunities to contribute to IBM's climate strategy and performance tracking.

The position is ideal for an early-career professional with strong quantitative and problem-solving skills that is self-motivated and goal-driven.

Your Role And Responsibilities
GHG Accounting & Data Management
  • Analyzes IBM's global renewable electricity consumption and GHG emissions using established accounting methodologies, supporting reporting and performance tracking across geographies, business units, revenue segments, legal entities, subsidiaries, and emissions sources.
  • Maintains and supports automation of GHG accounting methodologies, assumptions, calculations, and data quality controls.
  • Works with technical and business teams to translate climate reporting requirements into scalable data collection, reporting, and analytics solutions.
Climate Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
  • Leverage AI to identify and monitor existing and emerging regulations, disclosure requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to climate reporting and GHG accounting.
  • Develops reports, analyses, and management insights to support internal decision-making and external sustainability reporting.
Climate Performance & Target Achievement
  • Maintains processes to regularly measure and report progress against IBM's renewable energy procurement and GHG emissions reduction targets.
  • Supports Scope 3 GHG accounting activities, including emissions quantification, data collection, validation, reporting, and performance tracking.
  • Supports client and supplier engagement activities related to climate data collection, validation, sustainability reporting, and emissions performance management.
Process Integration & Continuous Improvement
  • Supports the integration of climate and sustainability data requirements into enterprise processes, systems, and governance frameworks, to enable consistent, auditable, and scalable data management across IBM.
  • Supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Scope 3 GHG accounting through primary data collection initiatives and data quality improvement efforts.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, data analytics, business analytics, economics, accounting, finance, or a related quantitative, environmental, or business field.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to work with large data sets in a timely manner while ensuring data quality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to summarize technical information clearly for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interest in sustainability, climate change, environmental data and business responsibility.
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
  • Internship, academic project, coursework or early-career experience related to sustainability reporting, environmental data analysis, GHG emissions accounting or business analytics.
  • Familiarity or experience in data analytics, business administration, finance, accounting, and/or economics.
  • Experience with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Envizi, Power BI, Tableau, Python, SQL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence and/or automation tools.
  • Familiarity with sustainability disclosure frameworks (e.g., GRI, CDP).
  • Experience conducting market research, benchmarking studies or sustainability-related analyses.
