Job summary

Riggs Cat in West Virginia is seeking a Yardperson to maintain the yard, assist Rental, Parts, and Service departments, and help customers in the yard. You will prepare tools for shipment, inspect and tag equipment, and ensure rental-ready condition.

Role involves loading/unloading tools, occasional heavy lifting, and exposure to weather. This position requires a proactive attitude, reliability, and the ability to work overtime or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tools for shipment to other stores and dealers.
  • Properly dispose (check-in) all tools received for factory, vendors, and other locations.
  • Assemble and disassemble work tools and label them properly.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the yard.
  • Assist Rental, Parts, and Service departments when instructed.
  • Greets customers in yard and direct them to office or unloading areas.
  • Assist delivery drivers in loading/unloading tools.
  • Wash or lightly maintain rental/work tools.
  • Inspects equipment before customer receipt, checks inventory ID and fuel.
  • Verifies fuel consumed and inspects equipment detail on return.
  • Installs service tags on equipment returned from rental.
  • Moves rental-ready equipment to storage after maintenance.
  • Gives customers operating instructions for rental gear.
  • Involves in washing/light maintenance on rental equipment.

Description

The Yardperson is responsible for general maintenance and logistics of the Yard, as well as supporting the Rental, Parts, and Service Departments as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Prepare tools for shipment to other stores and dealers.
  • Properly dispose (check-in) all tools that are received for factory, vendors, and other locations.
  • Assemble and disassemble work tools as required and ensure proper labeling of all tools.
  • Maintain good order and cleanliness of the yard.
  • Assist Rental, Parts, and Service Departments when instructed to do so.
  • Greets customers in yard, helping direct them to office or unloading areas.
  • Assists delivery drivers in loading and unloading work tools.
  • Will be involved in washing and/or performing light maintenance on work tools.
  • Has good working knowledge of all work tools.
  • Makes final inspection of equipment before customer receives it, verifying inventory ID number, fuel level, and “rental ready” condition.
  • Verifies fuel consumed and inspects all “detail” of equipment when returned.
  • Installs “service tags” on equipment returned from rental.
  • Moves “rental ready” equipment back to proper storage areas following routine maintenance procedures by service shop.
  • Assists customers and delivery drivers in loading and unloading rental equipment.
  • Gives customers start/stop and general operating instructions on rental equipment.
  • Will be involved in washing and/or performing light maintenance on rental equipment.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally do heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.

The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
