Job description

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Rental Assistant/ Receptionist in Salem Virginia at our corporate headquarters. The Rental Assistant/ Receptionist provides administrative support to the Rental Department, including monitoring purchase order updates, job-site changes, call-offs, rental equipment extensions, and ordering supplies. The Rental Assistant/ Receptionist is also responsible for operating the company's computer console and performing receptionist duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, including answering telephone calls, greeting visitors, receiving deliveries, and performing various clerical assignments. Seeking candidates with a minimum of two years' office experience.

Requirements for the Rental Assistant/ Receptionist position include:

  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Must have excellent customer service, telephone, and problem solving skills.
  • Must possess ability to operate computer console system.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks with competing demands.
  • Must be able to work in a high volume and fast-paced environment and maintain professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work additional hours as needed to meet customer demands.

Physical requirements must be met for the Rental Assistant/ Receptionist job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 20 pounds in weight. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
