Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. in Georgia is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney for a full-time, exempt role that may be performed in-office, remotely, or hybrid.

You will defend employers on Georgia workers’ compensation matters and manage cases from filing through resolution. As a member of Staff Counsel you will conduct depositions, discovery, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, advise insureds and claim professionals, negotiate settlements, and travel for court appearances

Qualifications

• Attorney must be licensed in Georgia.
• 4+ years of workers’ compensation defense experience desired.
• A strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as applicable federal, state, and administrative agency rules.
• Demonstrate an ability to analyze issues, proactively develop effective strategies on pending cases, communicate regularly with claims professionals, document communications, and resolve cases as efficiently and effectively as possible.
• Solid experience in preparing responsive pleadings, handling appearances, motion practice, depositions, court hearings, settlement conferences and trials, as well as conducting valuation of claims and making recommendations for resolution.
• Willing to work independently with minimal direction, handle matters efficiently, and travel as necessary for court hearings, depositions, site inspections, client meetings, and other in-person events.

Responsibilities

• Defend employers in connection with workers compensation matters in the State of Georgia.
• Independently conduct depositions, pre-trial discovery, mediations, arbitrations, trials, or any other legal activity required to resolve cases.
• Daily communications with claim professionals and clients concerning the evaluations of legal files.
• Provide legal advice to insureds and claim professionals as needed.
• Negotiate settlements as directed.
• Attend round tables.
