Job summary

Legal Aid at Work seeks a Staff or Senior Staff Attorney for the Wage Protection Program. The attorney will handle enforcement and impact litigation on behalf of low-wage workers, including class actions and multi-plaintiff cases, within a supportive, collaborative environment.

The position emphasizes advocacy, community outreach, and strategic legal work to advance workers’ rights, with flexibility for remote/hybrid work and strong commitment to racial equity and social justice.

Qualifications

• Active member of the California State Bar or willing to take the California Bar Examination.
• Willing to reside anywhere in California; remote/hybrid work allowed.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and civil rights in representing low-wage workers.
• Experience working with low-wage worker and/or immigrant communities.
• 5–10 years of litigation experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills; strategic thinking about nonprofit law reform.

Responsibilities

• Investigating, developing, initiating and litigating enforcement and impact cases.
• Assisting with the Program’s direct services work, including representing clients in limited-scope matters and with full legal representation in administrative hearings.
• Assisting the Program Director and other team members with developing strategy for the program.
• Engaging in federal, state, and local policy advocacy (often in coalition with other organizations).
• Conducting community outreach and education in conjunction with community partners.
• Coach and mentor law student clerks, fellows, and junior attorneys.
