Job summary

RailWorks Corporation is seeking a VP & Controller in Houston, TX to lead finance for major projects, ensure GAAP compliance, and manage site accounting and shared services. The role oversees monthly closes, budgeting, and reporting, while supporting joint ventures and complex audits.

The ideal candidate brings extensive senior finance experience, strong IFRS/GAAP knowledge, and the ability to train staff across locations. AURA: remote-capable collaboration and a focus on controls and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, CPA a plus.
• Minimum 7 years of senior-level finance or accounting experience.
• North American cross border experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and cost control principles.
• Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations.
• Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting for construction contracts preferred.
• General knowledge of HR practices and laws.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting.

Responsibilities

• Acts as site accounting SME and handles accounting-related issues.
• Prepares timely monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports and forecasts.
• Supports multiple project teams and their financial reporting needs.
• Manages financials for joint ventures in lead or minority roles.
• Ensures internal control integrity and compliance with GAAP and SOX.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
• Prepares analyses and liaises with internal/external auditors.
• Manages month-end close processes.
• Leads site implementation of corporate accounting initiatives.
• Leads annual operating budget preparation and reviews.
• Performs annual staff performance evaluations.
• Interviews, trains and supports staff in payroll, AP, AR, costs and HR.
• Prepares ad hoc reports and supports special projects.
