Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Iowa is seeking a Sr. Utilities Engineer to optimize and manage utility systems across our facilities, focusing on industrial refrigeration, boiler and compressed air systems.

You will design, develop, operate and optimize these networks to support production of Smithfield, Eckrich and Nathan's Famous brands. The role involves troubleshooting, implementing new projects, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, and providing guidance on system enhancements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years experience in ammonia refrigeration systems.
• RETA CIRO/IIAR2 certification or equivalent ammonia training required.
• Deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and their applications.
• Strong reading, math, writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision and travel 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Support & Collaboration: Work with US facilities on capital infrastructure plans and engage refrigeration resources.
• Design & Implementation: Develop designs, select equipment, obtain quotes, and implement new systems.
• Planning & Budgeting: Assist with planning and budgeting for utilities projects and optimize systems.
• Research, Analysis & Continuous Improvement: Test new technology, analyze operations, and improve existing systems.
