Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Sr. Utilities Engineer to optimize and manage utility systems across manufacturing facilities, focusing on industrial refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air systems. You will troubleshoot, design, and implement projects while ensuring compliance and safety.

The role requires a deep understanding of ammonia refrigeration and related certifications, with frequent collaboration across sites and a willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years in ammonia refrigeration operations.
• RETA CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator) or equivalent certification is required.
• ANSI/IIAR2 certification (or equivalent) required.
• Garden City Program Operator II certification or equivalent required.
• Solid understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Support US Fresh and Packaged Meat facilities and partner with project engineering on infrastructure plans.
• Assist in designing and implementing refrigeration system upgrades and standardizing equipment.
• Assist with planning and budgeting for utilities engineering projects and drive optimization.
• Research new technologies and perform load, charge, and relief calculations to improve system performance.
