Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Sr. Utilities Engineer to optimize and manage utility systems across our facilities, with a focus on industrial refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air systems.

You’ll troubleshoot, design, develop, and implement projects, guiding regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. You will travel about half the time to support US Fresh and Packaged Meat facilities, collaborating with cross-functional teams on capital projects, while ensuring safety and reliability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of related experience in operations, maintenance and optimization of Ammonia Refrigeration systems.
• RETA CIRO certification, ANSI/IIAR2 certification, Garden City Program Operator II certification, or equivalent ammonia training certification.
• Deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and ability to apply that knowledge to the role.
• Strong reading, math, writing, and analytical skills.
• Willing to travel 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Support & Collaboration: You'll support all US Fresh and Packaged Meat Facilities as required. Work directly with facilities teams and project engineering on developing Capital Infrastructure Plans.
• Design & Implementation: Develop designs including equipment selection, quotes, and scheduling; implement new systems and standardize equipment requirements.
• Planning & Budgeting: Assist with planning and budgeting for utilities engineering projects to meet time requirements.
• Research, Analysis & Continuous Improvement: Research new technology; analyze complex operations; perform load, charge, and relief calculations; lead multiple efforts.
