Job summary

Remote is seeking a PEO Payroll Specialist Lead for the United States. This mid-level individual contributor role executes and supports payroll operations within the US PEO environment, ensuring accurate, on-time payroll delivery and regulatory compliance.

You will collaborate with Payroll Operations, Finance, Product, and Service Operations, and external stakeholders. The role emphasizes hands-on execution, process improvements, and operating independently in a remote-first, async work setting.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in end-to-end payroll execution within the US PEO or similar environment.
• Knowledge of US federal, state, and local payroll regulations and best practices.
• Experience implementing payroll processes or contributing to operational rollouts.
• Strong analytical skills to identify issues, interpret data and resolve exceptions.
• Proficiency in payroll systems and ability to learn new operational tools; automation/AI experience is a plus.
• Comfortable operating independently in a remote-first, asynchronous work environment.
• Collaborative mindset with strong communication for partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple payroll cycles and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end payroll operations for the US PEO environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Validate payroll inputs, calculations, and outputs, maintaining data integrity.
• Manage payroll-related exceptions, adjustments, and reconciliations and escalate complex issues.
• Support the operational implementation of payroll processes and system updates.
• Serve as a point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders on payroll delivery.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and workflows.
• Participate in testing payroll system enhancements and updates.
• Provide guidance to other payroll specialists to maintain continuity and quality.
• Monitor payroll performance metrics including SLAs and KPIs.
