Job summary

Premera Blue Cross is seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead a high-performing team from a remote/telecommuter setup. You will combine leadership, strategic insight, and underwriting expertise to strengthen operations and support key priorities across the organization.

You will guide underwriting activities, manage pricing and contracting, and develop monitoring reports for financial and membership performance. Strong leadership and industry knowledge are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, or 4 years of work experience.
• 5 years of underwriting, regulatory, or health insurance consulting experience.
• Previous underwriting experience.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• CEBS designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy management monitoring reports for tracking financial and membership positions and contract and fulfillment production.
• Manage underwriting, pricing, and/or contracting activities to ensure rates and policy provisions are adequate to meet risks and profit objectives.
• Manage underwriting processes to meet or exceed turnaround goals and objectives.
• Recruit, hire, and train high-quality underwriting teams and manage performance appraisals.
• Manage the budget process for assigned cost centers.
• Serve as primary internal contact for underwriting policy information.
• Support sales and account management in presentations and negotiations.
• Develop and maintain pricing data and contract generation systems for strategic decisions.
• Assist underwriting senior management in sustaining long-term policies and procedures.
• Monitor and review data from internal departments to identify problems and solutions.
