Job summary

Canonical is hiring an Ubuntu Security Engineer to join our industry-leading security team. You will monitor, triage, respond to, and document vulnerabilities in open source software, collaborating with internal teams and upstream developers to patch issues and strengthen Ubuntu.

This remote, globally distributed role requires travel twice yearly and a self-driven, accountable approach to security engineering across diverse ecosystems. All levels welcome.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of security vulnerability categories and fixing techniques.
• Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices.
• Familiarity with open source development tools and methodologies.
• Proficiency in one or more languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication with team and Ubuntu community.
• Experience with Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability in a multi-cultural environment.
• Self-motivated, responsible, and reliable.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open source packages.
• Track Ubuntu ecosystem vulnerabilities as they are discovered and fixed using internal tools.
• Collaborate with Ubuntu community and upstream developers to patch issues.
• Audit source code for vulnerabilities.
• Build features and tools to strengthen security of Ubuntu.
