Job summary

Catapult Federal Services is seeking a Substation Protection & Control Engineer for a full-time remote position. You will design, engineer, and implement protection and control systems for HV substations (12 kV–500 kV) and support greenfield/brownfield projects with cross-disciplinary teams.

The role requires hands-on P&C engineering experience, knowledge of relay coordination, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting. A Texas PE license is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Substation Protection & Control engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of electric utility transmission and distribution systems.
• Experience with developing P&C drawings and electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Develop P&C designs for high-voltage substations, including new construction and upgrades.
• Prepare and review one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, P&C schematics, relay drawings, and BOMs.
• Develop protective relay settings and coordination.
• Design protection schemes for transformers, transmission lines, bus systems, breakers, and reactors.
• Develop control logic, trip schemes, alarms, interlocks, and breaker control circuits.
• Support SCADA, RTU, and substation automation integration.
• Perform engineering calculations and studies for P&C systems.
• Review vendor drawings and equipment documentation.
• Provide engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning, and energization.
• Respond to RFIs and resolve design issues.
• Participate in client meetings and design reviews.
• Ensure designs comply with IEEE, NERC, NEC, and client standards.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and field teams.
