Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Substation Engineer to design, implement, and test electrical substations for utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high voltage projects. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and standards adherence within power systems and substation equipment.

This fully remote position involves collaborating with transmission planners, protection engineers, control systems specialists, PV and BESS engineering to integrate substations into the power grid.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 2+ years in substation design, construction, or maintenance or equivalent design experience.
• Solid understanding of power systems including transmission, distribution, and generation.
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or PSS/E is a plus.
• Familiarity with protection relay programming and coordination studies is a plus.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NESC standards.
• Licensure pursuit is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review substations layout, equipment selection, and specifications per project requirements.
• Review load flow, short circuit, and relay coordination studies for reliability and efficiency.
• Prepare/Review detailed drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or Bluebeam.
• Coordinate with utility companies, contractors, and regulatory agencies for approvals and permits.
• Review vendor proposals for substation components.
