Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Substation Engineer for design, testing, and implementation of electrical substations. The role emphasizes safety, standards compliance, and collaboration across transmission planners and protection engineers.

This remote position allows flexible location discussions during interviews. You will work with substations design, protection coordination, and vendor reviews while supporting construction, testing, and commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field; master's degree preferred.
• 2+ years in substation design, construction, or maintenance.
• Solid understanding of power systems including transmission, distribution, and generation.
• Proficiency with ETAP/SKM/PSS/E is a plus.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NESC codes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in team (local and remote).
• Willingness to pursue licensure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review substations design, equipment selection, and specifications per project requirements and industry standards.
• Review load flow, short-circuit, and relay coordination studies for reliability.
• Prepare and review detailed drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or Bluebeam.
• Coordinate approvals with utility companies, contractors, and regulators.
• Evaluate vendor proposals for technical accuracy to specifications.
• Identify opportunities for design upgrades and value engineering.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning of substations.
• Troubleshoot equipment and systems remotely and on-site; perform root cause analyses.
