Job summary

GFT is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer (Electrical) to join our Power Group in a hybrid/remote-capable role. You will lead and support utility substation projects from 34.5kV up to 500kV, building strong client relationships and delivering high‑quality technical solutions.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a PE license (or on the path), and 4+ years of design, engineering, and project management in power and utility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer License or on the path to licensure.
• 4+ years progressive experience in design, engineering and project management within power and utility industry.
• Experience in the consulting engineering profession.
• Experience with project management software (Microsoft Project or similar).
• Design experience in high voltage substation and distribution projects.
• Experience delivering quality technical solutions and major power delivery projects.
• Commitment to driving strong business performance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation layout drawings including plan and elevations, yard layouts, grounding, raceway, control building layouts, cable lists, and material lists.
• Develop substation one lines, three lines, Aux AC/DC power systems, DC power, SCADA and communications systems, relay panel layouts, wiring, and cable schedules.
• Prepare calculations and reports presenting calculations to clients.
• Prepare equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction.
• Collaborate to pursue power substation projects regionally and nationally for GFT presence.
• Develop and nurture client relationships across multiple disciplines.
• Assist in preparation of proposals, bids, reports and presentations.
