Job summary

Lighthouse Connections Academy seeks an Advisor to support students and families from Michigan home or office-based locations. You will guide course selection, scheduling, and act as the first contact for concerns spanning multiple subjects and non-academic issues.

You will collaborate with school counselors to establish processes for middle and high school students and help develop a Four-Year Plan for graduation.

Qualifications

• Michigan teacher certification preferred, but not required by MDE.
• Michigan Residency preferred
• Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office and Google Suite)
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Highly organized and punctual
• Student and family focused approach
• High degree of flexibility
• Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
• Team player track record
• Strong interpersonal skills which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
• Travel to and attendance at in-person events, including State Testing is required throughout the school year, as determined by the school.
• Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families
• Ability to work remotely, if necessary
• Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication.

Responsibilities

• Make Welcome Calls to new students and inform teachers when new students enroll.
• Monitor grade level escalation and participation.
• Monitor attendance and communicate with caretakers about expectations.
• Advise students and families on academics, career planning and graduation.
• Assist with course selection and develop a Four-Year Plan for graduation requirements.
• Assist with dropping courses and changing schedules while following policy.
• Coordinate with administrative staff to obtain and forward student records.
• Identify and help families access school and community resources.
• Monitor truancy for the assigned grade level.
• Support development of Academic Plans and Personal Learning Plans.
