Job summary

Mid South Steel is seeking an Estimator to prepare detailed cost estimates for multi-family housing projects across the southeastern United States. The role emphasizes structural steel stairs, rails, and miscellaneous steel components, with home-based work and occasional site visits.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, detailers, architects, vendors, and contractors to ensure accurate, timely bids and growth of the division. Must read blueprints and manage multiple bids.

Qualifications

• Two years minimum construction estimating experience, preferably steel or miscellaneous steel.
• Experience with multi-family housing projects strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Tekla EPM, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong understanding of construction management, building codes, materials and cost-control practices.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specs, and contract documents.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication; ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, drawings, and specs for multi-family housing developments.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel stairs, rails, and miscellaneous steel components.
• Use Bluebeam, Tekla EPM, and MS Office to develop and manage estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, detailers, architects, vendors, and contractors.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for competitive pricing and quality.
• Identify cost efficiencies and value-engineering opportunities.
• Maintain organized documentation of estimates, bids, and supporting data.
• Develop relationships with contractors, developers, and vendors in the multi-family market.
• Support growth by providing accurate, timely estimates aligned with client expectations.
