Job summary

Horizon3 is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Firewall workstream for NodeZero. You will design and build integrations with WAF platforms, ensure safe, scalable remediation guidance, and partner across Product, Engineering, AI research, and the Attack team to deliver measurable customer outcomes.

You will shape architecture, review code, and mentor engineers while balancing correctness, security, and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• Expert-level Python software development experience.
• 8+ years in staff/lead-level roles with architecture and cross-team influence.
• Experience with WAF platforms and policy models across vendors.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust or similar backend languages.
• Experience designing service-oriented systems and APIs.
• Strong systems-design skills with tradeoff decisions.
• Ability to translate vague product problems into concrete technical plans.
• Clear technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical approach for the Web Application Firewall workstream from design to delivery.
• Build integrations with WAF management platforms and APIs.
• Define correctness checks to preserve legitimate traffic and availability.
• Create durable, resumable workflows with retries and timeouts.
• Implement safety controls including authorization, auditability, rollout and rollback on changes.
• Build observability to explain assessments, recommendations and justifications.
• Contribute production-grade code while guiding architecture and reviews.
• Collaborate with product and peers to align scope and outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and surface risks through written decisions.
