Job summary

n8n is building a remote-first platform that powers complex automation. As a Staff Architect, you will lead architecture across core platform teams, shaping execution engine, data and frontend platform to scale for 80+ engineers and the open-source community.

You’ll craft durable solutions, define stable interfaces, mentor engineers, and influence through RFCs and design reviews, while ensuring scalable, configurable foundations across cloud and self-hosted deployments.

Qualifications

• Must-have track record leading architecture across multiple systems or teams.
• Strong reasoning about invariants, correctness and trade-offs.
• Experience designing configurable, scalable systems.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts.
• Experience with data-intensive architectures, persistence and migrations.
• Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js for backend systems.
• Ability to influence via RFCs, reviews, and mentorship.
• Interest in platform contracts, abstractions, and developer experience.

Responsibilities

• Set architectural direction across Core Platform teams and ensure coherence of execution, infrastructure, data, and frontend platform.
• Evolve durable subsystems: workflow execution, orchestration, queues, worker management, scheduling, and horizontal scaling.
• Define stable platform interfaces and abstractions to reduce coupling and enable safe migrations.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and pairing; raise the bar for architecture and maintainability.
