Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead automated map reconstruction in its Mapping Engineering team, delivering end-to-end ML and CV pipelines from multimodal sensor data.

You will own architecture, mentor engineers, and drive cross-functional initiatives across Perception, Localization, Simulation, and Platform teams while advancing ML capabilities in autonomous mapping.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying ML/ CV systems in production.
• Strong foundation in vision, ML, or robotics with hands-on model development.
• Proficient in Python; C++ or systems programming is a plus.
• Experience building large-scale ML data pipelines including dataset curation and labeling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives with high autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead ML-driven map reconstruction systems at national scale.
• Design end-to-end pipelines for offline map reconstruction: data mining, labeling, training, evaluation, deployment.
• Define system architecture for next-gen mapping, balancing ML innovation with safety and scalability.
• Develop CV and ML techniques (detection, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, BEV) for mapping.
• Lead cross-functional work with Perception, Localization, Simulation, and Platform teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive technical excellence through reviews and guidance.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues across data pipelines and ML models.
• Serve as SME for ML-based mapping within Mapping and the AV organization.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps, hiring, and capability building.
