Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead automated map reconstruction within the Mapping Engineering team. You will architect and deliver end-to-end ML and computer vision pipelines that reconstruct and validate map primitives from large-scale sensor data, powering national deployments and adapting to changing road conditions.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role with high autonomy.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying ML or CV systems in production.
• Strong foundation in CV, ML, or robotics; hands-on model design and training.
• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C++ is a plus.
• Experience building large-scale ML data pipelines: curation, labeling, training, evaluation.
• Able to lead cross-functional technical initiatives with high autonomy.
• BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE/Robotics or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong systems thinking for end-to-end ML systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead ML-driven map reconstruction systems at national scale.
• Design end-to-end pipelines for data mining, labeling, training, evaluation, deployment.
• Define system architecture balancing ML innovation with safety and scalability.
• Lead CV and ML techniques for mapping and reconstruction tasks.
• Own cross-functional initiatives with Mapping, Perception, Localization, Simulation, Platform teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise ML/CV standards across teams.
• Diagnose and resolve issues across data pipelines and production workflows.
• Serve as SME for ML-based mapping within Mapping and AV orgs.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps, hiring, and capability building.
