Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build mapping algorithms and geospatial data systems for automated map reconstruction and maintenance. You will own the geometric/topological correctness of maps, merge disparate sources, and ensure error-free releases while collaborating with Perception, Localization, and Simulation teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering experience building production systems with a focus on mapping, geospatial, or geometric algorithms.
• Strong foundation in geospatial concepts: coordinate systems, projections, spatial indexing, geometry ops, map matching, graph algorithms.
• Experience designing geospatial data models and road network/map data structures (lanes, segments, intersections, topology).
• Hands-on ML/CV workflow in production: data curation, training/fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment.
• Experience building large-scale distributed data pipelines for geospatial/sensor data.
• Proficiency in Python and C++.
• BS or MS in CS, GIS, EE, Robotics, or equivalent; ability to own ambiguous problems end to end.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement mapping algorithms for reconstruction and maintenance: lanes, boundaries, road graphs, conflation and matching.
• Develop geospatial data models for lane-level connectivity at intersections and road networks.
• Build large-scale distributed geospatial pipelines processing sensor data into production map releases.
• Apply ML/CV models to automate feature extraction and change detection in pipelines.
• Create automated quality, validation, and regression systems with clear accuracy metrics.
• Collaborate with Perception, Localization, Simulation, and Platform teams on interfaces and contracts.
• Diagnose and resolve geospatial data pipeline and production workflow issues.
• Contribute to design reviews, best practices, and mentorship.
