Job summary

SmartLogic is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple client projects. You will own technical delivery planning, mentor teams, and collaborate with PMs to ensure on-time, high-quality results.

Expertise in Ruby on Rails, Elixir, Phoenix, and DevOps is required, with hands-on AI-assisted development in production environments. The role is a fully remote contract engagement in the United States with flexible weekly hours (25–40) and an hourly rate of $90–$110.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of modern software development experience delivering custom software for diverse clients.
• 7+ years in Ruby on Rails, Elixir, Phoenix; 2+ years in Flutter and/or React Native.
• 5+ years in DevOps incl. CI/CD, IaC, monitoring and tooling (Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines).
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools in production codebases with QA and reviews.
• Ability to evaluate AI tools and establish repeatable workflows with risk awareness.
• 3+ years in a consultancy setting, not solely product‑based.
• Experience in technical discovery, solution design, and estimation for client-facing projects.

Responsibilities

• Guide teams of developers, designers, and QA analysts to meet project commitments and client expectations.
• Co-lead delivery projects with the Project Manager to deliver on time and on budget.
• Mentor team members to follow SmartLogic processes and responsibly use AI-powered tools.
• Lead CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, AI innovations, and production environments.
• Collaborate with leadership to communicate progress, challenges, and resourcing needs.
• Partner with sales/consulting in technical discovery, solution architecture, and estimates.
• Design and review scalable cloud architectures (primarily AWS and Azure).
• Act as the technical expert on projects with QA and PR review focus on code quality and security.
