Job summary

WEX, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the technical direction and delivery of the data acquisition platform within the Data as a Service (DaaS) team. This is a remote position, but candidates must reside within 30 miles of the San Francisco Bay Area or other listed locations.

You will lead architecture decisions, build reusable ingestion services, and mentor engineers while ensuring data quality, security, and cost targets across batch, CDC, and streaming pipelines.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field; MSc a plus.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with distributed systems or data platforms.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance data acquisition pipelines across multiple systems.
• Lead the design and delivery of a modular ingestion platform with reusable connectors.
• Implement schema validation, reconciliation, and audit logging in ingestion components.
• Support safe retries, backfills, and schema evolution to prevent data loss or duplication.
• Design batch, CDC, and streaming ingestion patterns with performance and cost awareness.
• Ensure traceability, lineage, and security through governance integrations.
• Mentor engineers and drive architecture decisions and production adoption.
• Establish automated testing and CI/CD for ingestion code and infrastructure.
