Job summary

Porter & Company is seeking a Software Engineer to build and improve the technology behind our investment research business, from customer-facing websites and financial tools to internal applications, integrations, and automation.

Qualifications

• Experience building and shipping web apps used by customers.
• Backend experience in Python or Node.js.
• Familiarity with APIs, databases, authentication, and third-party integrations.
• Strong fundamentals: readable code, version control, testing, and debugging.
• Ability to navigate an unfamiliar codebase and work independently.
• Experience in startup or fast-paced environments.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical teammates.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain features across frontend applications, backend services, APIs, and databases.
• Improve member experience, including account access, research content, and interactive financial tools.
• Develop integrations connecting publishing, marketing, customer management, and other business systems.
• Automate repetitive work and build internal tools that help colleagues work more effectively.
• Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and deliver lasting fixes.
• Work directly with engineering, editorial, marketing, and customer service to turn business needs into practical software.
• Own your work through implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and follow-up.
