Job summary

Vultr is seeking a Server Onboarding Specialist to bring newly racked CPU and GPU servers into production, operating remotely. You will follow runbooks to move servers from hardware handoff through imaging, configuration, activation, and handoff to validation in a high-volume data center environment.

You will troubleshoot onboarding workflows, coordinate with upstream teams, and keep deployment momentum, maintaining precise fleet inventory and documentation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Linux systems administration (CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu).
• Experience with IPMI/BMC/iDRAC and out-of-band management.
• Ability to work hands-on with server hardware and BIOS/firmware tasks.
• Experience with PXE booting, imaging workflows, and OS provisioning.

Responsibilities

• Provide server provisioning from hardware handoff to production readiness.
• Configure IPMI/BMC, BIOS, RAID/JBOD, and firmware updates.
• Perform network-based OS provisioning and troubleshoot imaging failures.
• Run and monitor Puppet and other configuration tools on new servers.
• Triage DOA hardware and RMA candidates; document issues.
• Coordinate with networking, storage, provisioning and validation teams.
• Maintain accurate fleet inventory including rack locations and BMC credentials.
• Document onboarding runbooks and issues for process improvements.
