Job summary

UNC-Chapel Hill seeks a Senior Digital Technology Contracts Counsel for a 100% remote role, with North Carolina residency supportive for commuting under campus policy. The role provides legal advice on data privacy, information security, and technology procurement, drafting and negotiating complex tech agreements across the university.

You will collaborate with ITS, IPO, ISO, and the Office of University Counsel to protect institutional data and information systems and to develop contract

Qualifications

• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and ability to obtain NC State Bar.
• Experience negotiating technology transactions and drafting technology-related agreements including SaaS and cloud services.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, NIST, and other data privacy and information security concepts as applied to contracts.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate high-value data privacy and information security provisions in technology-related agreements.
• Lead contract negotiations and assist with high-risk technology procurements.
• Develop templates, negotiation playbooks, and institutional guidance for technology and data-related contracts.
• Provide training on contracting practices involving data privacy and information security.
• Mentor junior Digital Technology Contracts Counsel and collaborate with internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal/state laws and university policies.
