Job summary

cFocus Software seeks a Sr. Systems Architect to join our DHS program. This remote role requires a Public Trust Clearance and focuses on geospatial enterprise architectures using Esri Portal/ArcGIS, AWS, and integrated data pipelines.

The position demands 12+ years in systems/enterprise architecture, with extensive GIS/geospatial leadership and proven ability to drive architecture governance across complex cloud solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Geography or related field.
• 12+ years of systems, software, or enterprise architecture experience, incl. 8+ years GIS/geospatial work and 5+ years leading architecture for complex solutions.
• Experience with Esri Portal/ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, geospatial services, enterprise geodatabases, and AWS or comparable cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering, requirements, integration, verification/validation, CM, DevSecOps, networking, identity/access, databases, APIs, observability, backup/recovery, and lifecycle operations.
• Experience evaluating and integrating COTS/GOTS products, leading proofs of concept, architecture governance.
• Proficiency with .NET/C#, Python, JavaScript, Esri APIs/SDKs, REST, SQL, Git workflows, automated testing, and infrastructure practices.
• Ability to produce architecture diagrams, technical specifications, decision records, tests, executive briefings, SOPs, and lifecycle docs.
• Excellent technical leadership, analytical, communication, facilitation, mentoring, and stakeholder-management skills; DHS suitability requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and communicate current/target-state architecture for enterprise geospatial capabilities.
• Assess geospatial objectives, perform gap analyses, gather requirements, and evaluate alternatives.
• Recommend standards, reference architectures, and modernization roadmaps aligned with DHS goals.
• Design secure interfaces and integration patterns using APIs, REST, and IAM controls.
• Lead requirements analysis, system design, integration, verification, deployment, and maintenance activities.
• Establish baselines, traceability, and architecture decision records across the SELC.
• Identify risks early and coordinate mitigations to ensure scalability, reliability, and availability.
• Provide senior technical direction and mentor developers, engineers, and analysts.
• Architect and integrate Esri Portal/ArcGIS with AWS and DHS environments.
• Coordinate dependencies with DHS Enterprise Cloud Provider and other gov/hosting partners.
• Plan for IPv6, security, logging, and deployment automation.
• Develop and review test strategies and ensure traceability of defects.
