Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Server Database Lead to design, implement, and support mission-critical databases in AWS EC2 and RDS. You will mentor staff, guide security/compliance, and drive performance and availability objectives across multi-tenant environments.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, or equivalent military/education.
• 7+ years of production Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience.
• Experience with SQL Server 2019/2022 in HA configs.
• Experience with AWS RDS/EC2 and general AWS services.
• Strong SQL performance tuning and Windows server knowledge.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, installation, configuration, and optimization of SQL Server in AWS.
• Architect high availability and DR solutions like Always On and log shipping.
• Automate database functions and support migrations and CI/CD pipelines.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and code reviews.
• Ensure database security controls and compliance with CIS/SCSEM and federal standards.
• Handle vulnerability remediation from NESSUS findings and remediation actions.
• Manage encryption and key rotation with SQL Server TDE, TLS, and AWS KMS.
• Direct backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing.
• Perform performance analysis, capacity planning, and monitoring with Datadog.
• Coordinate patching, maintenance windows, and certificate management.
• Lead advanced query tuning and execution plan analysis.
• Support CI/CD with GitLab and Liquibase; automate tasks with PowerShell/AWS CLI/Python.
• Document procedures, runbooks, and change management processes.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure reliability and business alignment.
