Optum is seeking a Senior Software and DevOps Engineer to design, develop, test, and support production-grade rules applications in a remote-capable role. You will collaborate with architects, business operations, and application teams to deliver high-quality, secure software while ensuring production availability.

The role emphasizes cloud-enabled systems at scale, Java/REST/GraphQL services, CI/CD pipelines, and modern observability.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in IT with focus on application engineering and production operations.
Hands on experience designing, developing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting applications in production environments.
Solid experience with cloud platforms, APIs, event driven automation, and integration patterns.
Solid experience with Java, Maven, XML, REST APIs, microservices, and web services.
Solid SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience in scripting and automation using Python, Power Automate, Microsoft Graph API, and shell scripting.
Working knowledge of AI tools and their application in engineering workflows.
Knowledge of US Healthcare insurance with focus on payer side claims processing.
Exposure to Kafka or other streaming platforms.
Proficiency with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions.
Proven excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
Comfortable working with global, distributed teams in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

Developing and managing business rules in IBM ODM, including rule authoring, decision tables, and ruleflow maintenance.
Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs in Java.
Design and implement Kafka producers and consumers including schema design and reliable message processing.
Setup deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions and automated deployment rules.
Integrate JFrog Artifactory with CI/CD pipelines for artifacts management.
Write JUnit tests with high code coverage and analyze code with tools.
Work with MySQL and design high performance DB schemas for high volume workloads.
Deploy services on Kubernetes platforms with scaling and troubleshooting.
Use observability tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Zabbix, Grafana for monitoring.
Collaborate with architects, business users and operations.
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and agile ceremonies.
