Job summary

LMI Government Consulting is seeking a Senior Product Designer to advance VA digital modernization through research-led design of workflows, dashboards, and AI-enabled experiences. You will frame problems, prototype, validate, and collaborate with government and engineering teams to deliver measurable improvements.

You will translate findings into actionable design specifications and interfaces, drive adoption, and ensure accessibility and compliance, while mentoring designers and researchers

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human-centered design, human-computer interaction, UX/product design, service design, psychology, information science, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 7+ years in product design, UX, or related digital-product roles, including complex enterprise/workflow products.
• Portfolio demonstrating an end-to-end user-centered design process with research-informed decisions and iterative prototyping.
• Experience leading user research using interviews, contextual inquiry, observation, usability testing, or mixed-method approaches.
• Experience designing complex workflow, dashboards, automation, and data-heavy products where users interpret information and act quickly.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery and research to identify opportunities for workflow improvement, dashboards, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities.
• Plan and conduct interviews, contextual inquiry, workflow observation, usability testing, and post-release feedback around clear research questions.
• Synthesize evidence into user needs, pain points, and prioritized recommendations.
• Map current and future state workflows, journeys, information flows, and handoffs across complex environments.
• Translate validated needs into concepts, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and backlog-ready requirements.
• Design AI-enabled experiences with transparency, user control, and appropriate human oversight.
• Create usable dashboards that communicate status, trends, priorities, and required actions with minimal cognitive burden.
• Define product metrics and measure adoption, task completion, and feature utilization to guide iteration.
• Triangulate research findings with analytics, usage data, and stakeholder feedback to guide prioritization.
• Lead iterative prototype validation and usability testing with documented learnings and decisions.
• Apply accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG) throughout research, design, and handoff.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data, AI/ML, architecture, security/privacy, QA, training, and support teams.
• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to Government stakeholders and executives.
• Mentor designers and researchers and develop reusable templates, patterns, and measurement practices.
