Job summary

Sezzle is seeking a Senior Payments Engineer to own and scale the backend systems at the heart of the payments stack. You will design Go services that integrate with processors and gateways, manage money movement, and ensure accurate, auditable transactions.

In this role you will mentor teammates, collaborate with Product and Risk, and use Claude or similar LLMs to boost productivity while maintaining security. Remote-friendly role with strong compensation.

Qualifications

• 7 years of backend or fintech engineering experience.
• Strong Go (or Python) experience with REST APIs.
• Experience with payment processors, gateways, or settlement flows.
• Familiarity with distributed architectures and queuing tools.
• Demonstrated use of Claude or an equivalent LLM to improve productivity.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services in Go that integrate with payment processors and gateways.
• Own critical money-movement flows end to end: authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, chargebacks.
• Ensure idempotent, fault-tolerant transaction processing in a distributed architecture.
• Operate within PCI DSS scope and secure handling of payment data.
• Instrument and monitor payment health: authorization rates, latency, settlement accuracy.
• Leverage Claude/LLMs to accelerate design, coding, research, testing, and documentation.
• Mentor engineers and lead small project teams when needed.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Support teams.
