Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Senior Manager to lead our ML Platform engineering organization, building and operating the infrastructure powering every ML capability. This high-impact role sits at the intersection of distributed systems, AI, and platform engineering.

You will manage engineering managers, stay close to ICs, and drive the strategy for real-time/batch feature compute, model training, and scalable serving while growing top platform talent.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software/ML engineering experience, including 4+ years managing engineering managers.
• Deep expertise in building and operating large-scale ML infrastructure (feature stores, model serving, training pipelines).
• Strong data understanding: data pipelines and data quality.
• Fluency with modern ML: transformers, RL, large-scale GPU training and serving.
• Strong systems thinking from infra to architecture.
• Track record of building platforms that accelerate ML teams.
• Experience on the applied ML modeling side is a plus.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and lead through organizational complexity.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for ML Platform, including real-time and batch feature computation, model training infrastructure, and model serving at scale.
• Lead and grow a team of engineering managers while staying hands-on with technical direction.
• Evolve the platform to support transformer-based models, GPU compute, RL, and other advancing ML capabilities.
• Partner with ML modeling, product, and infrastructure leadership to accelerate key ML initiatives.
• Establish engineering excellence: reliability, observability, developer experience, and operational rigor.
• Recruit, develop, and retain world-class platform engineers.
